Description

The icon of the Scoroposloress was written in the 10th century. It was placed on a wall in the monastery dining room. Its revelation dates back to 1664. At that time, a monk named Nil, who was acting as a cook, walking at night with a lighted archer, heard a voice coming near the icon. It relayed that the monk should not walk past the icon with the archer and not to burn the sacred image. Nile, however, paying no attention to these words, continued to do so. After some time, the situation repeated itself, but this time a voice coming from the icon threateningly stated that the monk doing so was not worthy of being a monk. Immediately Nile was also punished with blindness. After others found this monk, they began to pray to the Mother of God. The punished Nile decided not to leave the icon and prayed asking the Mother of God for forgiveness and healing. The merciful Mother of God heard the monk and forgave his sins and healed him. Then she also added, ‘From now on, you will call this icon the Quick-Hearted One, because I will show love to those who come to me and grant their requests’.

Miracles began to happen at the icon; the blind regained their sight, the lame began to walk, sea disasters were avoided….
