Description
The Icon of Our Lady of Semyon (Seven Arrows ) was originally located in Russia. Her apparition took place in the following circumstances. One of the peasants had been suffering from leg disease and general weakness for many years. All ways to improve his condition were futile. No longer able to rely on any medicines or help from people, he turned to Our Lady. One day he had a dream vision in which he heard a voice instructing him to find an icon of the Mother of God on the bell tower of the St John the Theologian church and pray fervently before it, and then he would be cured. This is what happened.
* In 1830, during a cholera epidemic, residents began to seek help from the Mother of God. They went with the icon in a procession around the city. When they finished it, the plague was curbed, and after some time it passed away completely.
The icon is similar to the icon of Our Lady of the Softening of the Evil Heart, only with the difference that on the latter there are three arrows on each side and the seventh is pointing from below (three swords on the left and three on the right symbolise the fullness of sorrow and grief that Our Lady experienced during her earthly life).
