History is closely linked to the appearance of the prayer ‘Dostoyno Jest’. The origin of this prayer, together with the naming of the icon in this way, dates back to the 10th century. Not far from the capital of Athos lived two monks: an old man together with a novice. They came out of their cell very rarely, only in case of urgent need. One night, the old man left his chalice for a service in the Orthodox church. At the same time, an unknown monk knocked on the cell of the novice, who was left alone. They started praying together and reading psalms. While chanting one of the prayers, the stranger monk noticed that it started with different words. While pronouncing these words, the icon of the Mother of God located in the same room shone with a bright light. The novice asked to write these words on the stone slab, which became as soft as wax from the warmth of his hands. After writing these words, the visiting monk moved away. The novice spent the night in prayer and told everything to the old man. News of the incident and the prayer spread throughout the Holy Mountain. To this day, there is an original icon on the Holy Mountain of Athos in the Karies- Protaton Orthodox Church.
