In its content, the icon refers directly to the tragic events that took place in Zaleszany in 1946, when soldiers commanded by Romuald Rajs, pseud. ‘Bury’, set fire to the village and carried out a bestial murder of its inhabitants for being Orthodox. Seventeen people were then killed, including nine children. In ‘Bury’s’ plans, they were all to die.
The Most Holy Mother of God shows once again that she has been our greatest intercessor for two thousand years and that she surrounds all her children with her care and concern, no matter what end of the world they may be in.

W 2013 roku pewnej osobie ukazała się sama Matka Boża w trakcie Boskiej Liturgii odprawianej w Żeńskim Domu Zakonnym pw. św. Katarzyny w Zaleszanach. Człowiek ten miał poważny problem zdrowotny. Przyjechał do monasteru, żeby modlić się w tej właśnie intencji. Podczas kanonu eucharystycznego ujrzał na tle jednej z ikon Matki Bożej znajdującej się w tymczasowej cerkwi samą Bogarodzicę w otoczeniu siedmiu aniołów. Na dole ikony z jednej strony był płonący dom, a z drugiej trójka małych dzieci również w ogniu. Po powrocie do domu człowiek ten zauważył, że choroba ustąpiła. By the decision of the Metropolitan of Warsaw and all of Poland, Sava, the feast of the Zalesha Icon of the Mother of God was established for the last Saturday of July.
